What to visit in New York – essential
Essential place to visit in New York No. 1: The Statue of Liberty, an icon of the city
We started with one of the city’s icons par excellence, being in New York and not visiting the Statue of Liberty is an incomplete journey!
This symbol of freedom was a gift from France in 1886 to commemorate the anniversary of U.S. independence. In the museum they explain all the history of the statue and we thought it was very interesting, don’t miss it!
There are different ways to visit the Statue of Liberty, we recommend you to buy the ticket on the official website and with it you will have access to the pedestal of the Statue (also to the crown) and the museum inside, also includes the ferry to the island.
With some of the tourist cards of New York you will have included the ferry until the island (Liberty Island) but you will not have access to the pedestal nor to the crown.
Another option is to hire a guided tour to visit it.

The “bad” thing is that they sell the ones that are free for that day and it is difficult to find two with seats together just for the musical we want.

The High Line is an old railway line converted into an urban park, a clear example of urban recycling like the Chelsea Market, which was an old Oreo biscuit factory. It is a very cool place that we highly recommend you to visit!

Essential Place in New York No. 7: Tour Central Park and disconnect from the city
New York is very cool but also exhausts like no other! In order to disconnect from the New York jungle we recommend you to go into Central Park and rent some bikes.
If you also visit New York in the summer, a picnic in Central Park is a must!
It is the great lung of Manhattan, the contrast of skyscrapers with nature is muuuy TOP, in addition to a picnic and bike ride can also ice skating if you go in winter, relax in one of its lakes or visit one of these places:
Bow Bridge, one of the most romantic bridges
Imagine John Lennon
Alice in Wonderland
If you go on a Sunday, you’ll feel like you’re in an American series surrounded by families having a picnic, playing baseball or throwing the frisbee at their dog.
Whenever we visit New York we do our little ritual, go to the Whole Food of Columbus Circle, buy take-out food and have a picnic in Central Park.
Although on this last Christmas trip to New York we couldn’t do it because in winter all the grass is fenced and you can’t step on it.
The Museum of History, the MET Metropolitan Art Museum and the Guggenheim are very close to the park.
HOW TO GET THERE: The park is very large and has many points of access, we recommend that you look at the map at the end of the post.

A must-see in New York City #8: Brooklyn Bridge, the city’s most famous bridge
The Brooklyn Bridge is also every icon of New York, for more than 20 years held the title of longest suspension bridge in the world, today despite not having that title is one of the most famous bridges in America and would say the entire world.
It’s one of our favorite spots in the city, you have to cross it at least once on your trip to New York, on foot or by bike!
We recommend you to do it from Manhattan to Brooklyn and then relax with the skyline views.
Whether you go during the day, at sunset or even at night, the views from Granite Prospect are breathtaking!

Fifth Avenue is one of the city’s most famous avenues.

Just contemplating the extravagant decorations of the shop windows is already a spectacle! If you visit New York at Christmas they are even more ostentatious.
Many of the shops on this avenue have untouchable prices but you can always enjoy breakfast at Tiffany’s, like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast with Diamonds, a very recommendable experience!

Essential place to visit in New York No. 10:Time’s Square, the most famous square in the world
I think this square needs no introduction, Time’s Square is the most emblematic and perhaps the most photographed place in New York City!
Broadway Avenue and Seventh Avenue intersect right at this point, you’ll find many shops, restaurants and Broadway theatres within walking distance.
Did you know he owes his name to the New York Time’s newspaper based here? 🙂
This square is pure life, at all hours of the day is full of people gawking at the neon lights that are everywhere.

Indispensable in New York nº10+1:To do a tour of contrasts
It is not a specific place to visit in New York but this tour through the different neighborhoods of New York is very recommendable!
It takes you a bit away from the most touristy part of the city and you discover a different city, we visited areas that we probably would not have visited alone and also with a guide who told us all the history of each neighborhood.
We did the VIP contrast tour to save time, the tour is done in a smaller van with fewer people.
For the price difference with the normal contrast tour, it’s worth it!
