What’s the best way to get from Takayama to Gero?

To travel between Takayama and Gero, the best way, without a doubt, is by train. There are two lines linking the two cities, both of JR, and they are Ltd. (Wide View) Hida and the Takayama Line for Minoota, which alternate during the day (there is usually a train every 45/60 minutes).

While the trains of the Ltd. Hida Expedition takes about 45 minutes to complete this tour, the Takayama Line for Minoota do it in about an hour.

How much does it cost to go to Gero?

Since both lines make up this JR route, if you took the JR Pass, the route between Takayama and Gero will be completely free.

If you do not have a JR Pass, the cost varies depending on the line you take. The LTD. Hida Exp. costs 1,620 JPY per person, while the Takayama Line for Minoota costs 970 JPY per person. So if you don’t need to leave at a specific time and don’t mind taking a little longer to do the tour, it’s definitely more than recommended to take the Takayama Line for Minoota.
