How to get from Athens Airport to the city centre
1. How to get from Athens Airport to Downtown METRO:
Taking the metro is a very comfortable option if your accommodation is close to a stop, especially the stops of the blue line (Monastiraki and Syntagma) because that way you will not have to change trains.
The metro operates every day from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. It runs in 40 minutes with a frequency of 30 minutes.
The price of a ticket to or from the airport is €10 per person per journey, if you are two you can buy a combined ticket for €18/journey.
If you plan to move around Athens by public transport, for 24€ you will have all the transport included for 3 days and includes the meters that arrive at the airport.
Although most things to see and do in Athens can be walked around perfectly.
Tickets can be purchased at the machines at the airport metro station, the only downside is that the machines are not in Spanish, they are in English, French, German, Italian, Russian and Greek.

2. How to get from Athens Airport to the city centre by BUS:
The Airport Express Bus service has four lines, one of them the X95 makes 20 stops between the airport and Syntagma Square.
Operates throughout the day, makes the journey in about 40-60 minutes depending on traffic.
It is the cheapest option to go from Athens airport to the center, specifically to Syntagma Square (one of the places we recommend you to stay in Athens), costs € 6 per person and the bus leaves every 15-20 minutes depending on the time.
You can buy the ticket in the bus or in the machines of the subway stations.

3. Book a TRANSFER between Athens airport and the city centre:
If you want to have the comfort of being picked up at the airport and taken to the door of your hotel, you can hire transfer services before leaving home.
It is the most comfortable option to go from Athens airport to your hotel and if you are several people to divide can be a very interesting option.
The price of the transfer is around 40€, if you are four people this option will cost you almost the same as taking the metro, with the comfort that is to be left at the door of your hotel with your luggage.

4. Rent a car at Athens airport:
The Athens airport is about 35 km away from the city centre.
We rented a car at the airport that we had during our whole trip around the Greek Islands.
To get to Athens we had to pay a toll of €2.80. We didn’t have much traffic and we got to downtown Athens in about 30 minutes.
If you are going to go the other way around, from the centre to Athens airport, we recommend that you leave well in advance because, as it is a big city, there are usually traffic jams at the exits.

5. How to get from Athens Airport to the centre in TAXI
The price of a taxi from the airport to the centre of Athens is fixed and includes everything, tolls, luggage, taxes and so on.
There are two rates depending on the time we take the taxi:
Day rate: From 05:00 to 23:59 → 38€

It’s an interesting option if you’re four people.
6. How to get from Athens Airport to Piraeus Ferry Port:
If you are not planning to pass through Athens and want to go directly to the ferry port of Piraeus because your destination is some Greek island, you have these options:
TRAIN: It’s the best option! It makes several stops and connects the airport and the port in 60-70 minutes depending on the train, has a frequency of one or two an hour. It costs 10€.
METRO: The price is the same as to get to Athens, you have to get off at the Monstiraki stop and change to the green line with Piraeus destination which is the last stop and where you will find the ferries to the Greek islands. The approximate time is 90 minutes.
BUS: Line X96 is the cheapest option, it makes the journey from Athens airport to the port for €6 and takes about two hours.
TAXI: It costs 54€ between 05:00 and 00:00 and 70€ between 00:00 and 05:00.
PRIVATE TRANSFER: The most comfortable option! A driver will pick you up at the airport and take you directly to the port of Pyreo. See prices of the updated transfers.
We do not recommend taking a ferry a few hours after your estimated time of arrival at Athens airport, times are unpredictable! If the flight is delayed a little, if the suitcase takes a long time to leave, if public transport is delayed or there is traffic… you could have a nervous breakdown!
If you go directly from Athens airport to the ferry port we recommend a minimum of 4 hours between the arrival of the plane and the departure of the ferry,
These would be the options to go from Athens airport to downtown!
