I have travelled to Portugal many times. I think I like it so much that every time I can come back. But there is something that always interested me and was to know if there were beaches near Lisbon, but good beaches.
Finding beautiful beaches near Lisbon seemed to me not very easy. Maybe it’s because the times I’ve traveled to Lisbon were to tour the city, get lost in its streets, taste its lovely food and why not explore the more cultural side.
After all the trips I made to the Portuguese capital I can assure you that there is still a lot of desire for something different and that’s why I decided to look for the best beach.
A dream place one hour from Lisbon
If, like me, you are also interested in finding a beach near Lisbon, I have good news for you: if you want to take a dip in the sea and be in a very quiet dream place, you can do it.
Just over an hour’s drive from Lisbon is Comporta, an idyllic place that combines the beauty of the sea with rice paddies.
If what you are looking for is to get out of the hustle and bustle, disconnect from the city and live a unique moment surrounded by beauty, peace and pure air, that place is Behavior.
Calm and first quality houses
Imagine that you arrive at a place where you can see one of the best sunsets in Portugal, the fresh sea breeze hitting your face, the tranquility of the rice fields behind you and a magnificent temperature.
To make it easier for you, you have to know that in all that scenario that seems to be taken from a movie, you can rent houses where you can rest disconnecting completely.
This is the concept with which Alma da Comporta works. Alma da Comporta decided to maintain the spirit of the fishermen’s houses, but with the reforms and needs required by every traveler who arrives to the place to rest.
The fishermen’s cabins that dot the region of Comporta Portugal give the site a unique charm.
The houses for visitors have that calm so that the retreat just one hour from Lisbon will be unforgettable.
These cabins have everything you need and a little more to make your stay perfect.
Charline and Antoine, the promoters of these tourist rest houses, moved to this Portuguese area many years ago.
After enjoying peace, sunsets and the sea, they decided to invite more people to live what they experienced every day: a disconnection from the world and the big cities and to be able to embrace a unique peace.
Everything you need in a house by the sea
In order for you to understand everything you can have in one of these houses, I must cite only the example of the so-called Casa Campo de Arroz.
It has a capacity for up to 10 people, ideal for going with friends or family, four large rooms, all the necessary equipment and some details that I will tell you that will make you want to travel now:
27″ iMac Computer
And so much more.
And if this were not enough, on request you can count on
Chef at home
Meals at home
Prices and capacities of the houses of Behaviour
At first glance house prices may seem a little higher than a normal hotel, but if you think that capacities range from 3 people to 12 you will find that you are getting a lot for very little.
Just to give you an example I tell you that a house for 3 people costs about 180 euros a night, very good price if you take into account the type of accommodation.
Meanwhile, a house for about 7 people has everything you need to spend some incredible days will cost you nothing more than 300 euros per night.
If you are looking for a group of friends or a larger family you should consider the totally private house with an incredible capacity for 10 people that costs only 400 euros a night. And yes, I say only 400 per night which means you pay nothing more than 40 per person every day you spend there.
How it behaves
Many travelers who visit this area of Portugal do so convinced that they will go to a region with beaches like any other, but are surprised.
Typical fishermen’s cabins perched on stilts may remind you of parts of Asia, while long white sandy beaches transport anyone to the idyllic image of the Caribbean.
But we’re not just talking about a place where there’s a sea or fishermen’s cabins. The rice fields in the area make everything much calmer, calmer and the breeze drags that light sound that mixes with the sea to give us all the relaxation we need.
Comporta, Portugal, is a small paradise located in an almost hidden corner of the Estuário do Sado Nature Reserve.
More than nature
In addition to that natural spirit, the inhabitants and nearby towns make the place have other attractions with which your visit can combine the calm of the sea and explore cities and towns.
Very close to your home you will find Troia Golf Club for you to enjoy a quiet sport.
If what you want is to know a little more about its culture, I recommend that you take a tour of the Rice Museum or the Roman Ruins of Tróia.
El reinado del arroz, places to eat in Comporta
Knowing that one side is sea and the other the rice fields, it is more than certain that the dishes you will taste there will be with very fresh local produce.
There are countless options for eating in Comporta, such as the Cavalariça Comporta, a renovated place that has become a benchmark in the area for the quality of its dishes and for its elegant and warm atmosphere.
Another good option to eat in this area is Gomes Casa de Vinhos & Petiscos, a place that offers you its sunny terrace in summer and its warm fireplace in winter. Its small dishes to share, its fresh salads and its atmosphere make it one of the top places to eat.
How to get to Behaviour
When you look at the map where Comporta is you will understand very well why it is one of the quietest and most peaceful places I can recommend.
To be at the top of the map, in the middle of a natural reserve seems to be talking to you about a completely remote site and very difficult access.
But it’s not like that.
If you used a car from the centre of Lisbon it would take you no more than an hour and ten minutes to get to Comporta.
My recommendation is that you do it by renting a vehicle. It is clear that you can use public transport because in Portugal there are many and very good ones, but the freedom it will give you to move in a vehicle on your own is priceless.
If in spite of this advice you prefer to go by public transport I advise you to do it by bus and to do it with some time and tranquility. But I also advise you to take advantage of this situation to take relaxing walks from your home to the viewpoints, restaurants or the beach.
Tips for Visiting Behavior
The first piece of advice I can give you if you are going to travel to Behaviour is to do so thinking about disconnecting. Don’t tie yourself to your mobile phone, or don’t pay so much attention to your TV or Internet connection.
My second advice is to make the most of the quality of nearby restaurants, where you’ll find fresh seafood and rice cooked by those who really know the product they work with.
The third and last piece of advice I can give you is that you don’t stop taking great and quiet walks along the beaches, you are going to see some of the best sunsets of your life.
