Where to stay in New York

For us Manhattan is the first option and the one we always recommend to stay in New York, after having stayed in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, without a doubt we keep the latter.

In spite of being a very well communicated city, if you stay away from most things to see and do in New York you will lose a lot of time on trips, and that being on a trip is not cool at all.

Here we tell you about all the areas where to stay in New York, the ones we like best, the points of interest nearby and some accommodation recommendations, here we go!

Midtown – Times Square, the best area to stay in New York

On our last trip to New York we stayed in this area and for us it was the best area to stay in New York without a doubt!

Unbeatable location to know the city and make tourism, Times Square a step (literal) and very well connected with the rest of Manhattan, also has plenty of restaurants and cafes.

Being right in the middle of Manhattan, you quickly reach all the tourist sites and nothing is too far away.

The prices are not the most economic, but you want it in time of displacements!

For us it is the best option where to stay in New York.

Points of interest in Midtown:

Times Square
Broadway
Bryant Park
Grand Central Terminal
Rockefeller

Recommended accommodation in Midtown – Times Square:

POD TIMES SQUARE HOTEL. The hotel where we stayed, 100% recommended! ELEMENT TIMES SQUARE WEST HOTEL STANDFORD NYC HOTEL PENNSYLVANIA. It’s one of the most popular hotels in New York but it’s been billed for sloppiness and lack of renovation, yet it’s still a bestseller in Booking and despite the low score and bad opinions, people continue to choose it (+44,000 opinions).

2. Lower Manhattan and the Financial District

In this area it is usually cheaper to sleep on weekends than on weekdays because Wall Street businessmen fill the rooms.

This neighborhood is really good to stay in New York, has good subway communications and some must-see spots in the Big Apple are just a step away.

On the other hand, it is not a very flirtatious area that we say, it is a business area and as such everything is designed for it.

Points of Interest in Lower Manhattan and Financial District:

New York Stock Exchange
Ferry to Statue of Liberty
One World
The outlet of Century 21

Recommended accommodations in Lower Manhattan and Financial District:

WORLD CENTER HOTEL CLUB QUARTERS HOTEL, WALL STREET HOLIDAY IN MANHATTAN FINANCIAL DISTRICT

3. Columbus Circle – Central Park

More than a New York neighborhood, this is a very well communicated area and we especially like to stay in New York for several reasons.

It is relatively close (by public transport) to the heart of Times Square and Broadway, and has a subway stop on which three lines pass, including the one that goes directly to JFK airport.

That’s why we like it so much, it’s a very well connected area with the rest of Manhattan and at one point you plant yourself on the other end of the island.

Points of interest in the Columbus Circle and Central Park area:

Central Park
Metropolitan Opera
Whole Foods, great for saving on dinners.

Recommended accommodations in the Columbus Circle and Central Park area:

HOTEL HUDSON THE WATSON HOTEL

Central Park, New York

4. SoHo and Nolita

Two of Manhattan’s coolest neighborhoods and coolest coffee shops, it’s an area with lots of rolls ideal for staying in New York.

It’s full of charming boutique hotels, a great place to feel like a New Yorker and enjoy a quieter Manhattan.

Points of interest near Soho and Nolita:

Little Italy
Katz’s Restaurant
Lombardis Pizzeria

Recommended accommodation in Soho and Nolita:

THE RIDGE HOTEL CITY ROOMS NEW YORK CITY

The Roma cafeteria is not exactly in these two neighborhoods, but it is very close! In Little Italy

5. Chelsea

Here you will find the famous Chelsea Market, the new Google offices and a very cool Starbucks Reserve.

It is an area with a very cool hipster roll, with a bohemian touch and several art galleries and museums.

It’s one of Manhattan’s fastest growing neighborhoods, they keep building residential buildings and it’s becoming one of the most exclusive areas, for example the new structure The Vessel, is located here.

The bad part is that staying in this neighborhood is not especially cheap, but below we have left you some quite affordable recommendations, always bearing in mind that we are talking about staying in New York and specifically in Manhattan!

Points of interest in Chelsea:

High Line
The Vessel

6. Upper West Side

It’s a residential neighborhood of Manhattan, the further north there are more accommodations with bad opinions and low marks, but from half down we can find interesting and affordable accommodations.

It’s one of the cheapest places to stay in New York, but it’s pretty much everything.

We chose the south of this neighborhood on our visit to New York for Christmas, and we liked it very much.

Points of interest on the Upper West Side:

Natural History Museum
Central Park
Columbus Circle

Recommended accommodations on the Upper West Side:

WEST SIDE YMCA. This was the hotel that we chose in New York for Christmas, it is very fair and with semi-private bathroom, but it is an important saving. BELNORD HOTEL

7. Chinatown

It’s another of the cheapest areas to stay in New York, we don’t like it too much, but if you’re looking for something very economical this neighborhood may be an option.

You will see that many cheap lodgings abound but beware because most have low marks and bad comments, nor is it an area that we especially like at nightfall.

In his favor, if you like Chinese food (the real thing, not the Chinese restaurants around here), this neighborhood is crowded with great Chinese restaurants and very good price, also is very close to Soho which is already another roll.

If you decide to stay here, we recommend you to do it as close as possible to Soho or to a subway station.

Points of interest near Chinatown:

Soho
Little Italy

Recommended accommodation in Chinatown:

HOTEL MIMOSA LEON HOTEL

8. Brooklyn

It’s ideal to stay within Manhattan for sightseeing and to have everything relatively close by, but Brooklyn is also a neighborhood we like very much and you can find a little more affordable accommodations.

We recommend you to stay as close as possible to a metro station, otherwise you will lose a lot of time on the move.

All the lodgings that we recommend you below have some entrance to the next subway.

Points of interest in Brooklyn:

Brooklyn Bridge
Dumbo Park
Manhattan Bridge

Recommended accommodation in Brooklyn:

GOWANUS INN AND YARD, BKLYN HOUSE HOTEL, a bestseller from Brooklyn, good, nice and cheap. ALOFT BROOKLYN HOTEL INDIGO

Where to Stay in New York: Brooklyn

9. Queens

It’s not a neighborhood we especially like (although it’s huge and we haven’t seen everything), but we were staying here a few days ago and we didn’t like it very much.

It’s cheaper than staying in Manhattan, but you have to keep in mind how long it will take each day to get to all the sights.

We recommend that you stay close to a metro stop that connects with Manhattan.

Recommended accommodation in Queens:

QUEENS COUNTY INN RED LION
