Where to stay in Santorini

Today we are going to give you a hand in the arduous task of finding a place to stay in Santorini, it may seem like a small island but each area has its pros and cons, we hope that after reading this post you will find it easy to choose accommodation in Santorini!

We do not believe that there are unsafe areas to stay in Santorini as if we saw in Athens and we already count you in the post of the Greek islands for free, but there are areas more cool than others.

On our trip we were able to enjoy 5 days in Santorini in two different accommodations, Art Hotel and Louis Studios.

In spite of not being located in the most TOP areas of the island they were a success in terms of price-quality and very nice both! We’ll tell you more about them below.

And remember that we have another post with all the things to see and do in Santorini, plus some advice and recommendations!

Where to stay in Santorini

There are different areas to stay in Santorini and with very varied prices.

In the eastern part of the island, are the beaches and the accommodation is cheaper, here is Kamari.
The west side overlooks the boiler. Here we find Oia, Imerovigli, Firostefani, Akrotiri and the capital Fira, these areas are a little more expensive but the views are spectacular.
Then there are populations that remain in the middle of the island, like Pyrgos.

At the end of the post you have a map with all the zones differentiated with colors, much more visual!

1. Oía, the most exclusive area to stay in Santorini

Enjoying the wonderful views of the boiler at sunset from the jacuzzi in your room is one of the most exclusive experiences you can make in Greece.

As we walked through the cobblestone streets of Oía, we were amazed at the pools with views that were everywhere and we promised ourselves that the day we returned to visit Santorini we would stay in one of them.

No wonder Oía is one of the favorite honeymoon destinations.

Kastro Oia Houses – One of the most photographed houses in Oía (IT IS OIA’S ORANGE HOUSE)

Caldera Premium Villas – Typical Greek island house in the centre of Oía.

Anemomilos – Pretty cheap and very close to Oía

These are the accommodations marked on the map in purple.

2. Imerovigli and Firostefani, quieter and cheaper areas but with a lot of charm

This is one of the areas we liked the most in Santorini. Also with beautiful views to the boiler and a wide range of restaurants.

Here you can also see many romantic hotels with jacuzzi and swimming pool.

It doesn’t have as much offer as Oía but there aren’t as many people, it gave us the impression that this area is in constant evolution and in a few years it could become a competitor of Oía.

In our opinion it is one of the best areas to stay in Santorini.

We recommend you to have breakfast or brunch at the Galini Hotel with incredible views, very recommendable!

Recommended accommodation in Imerovigli and Firostefani:

Hotel Galini – Beautiful views of the cliff with a very cool cafeteria

Veranda View – With views to the boiler

Athiri Santorini Family Friendly Hotel – Beautiful family hotel

Cavo Tagoo Santorini – Beautiful villas with cave, a little more exclusive.

These are the accommodations marked on the map in red.

We recommend that you choose an accommodation in Santorini with swimming pool to combat the heat of the Greek islands in summer.

3. Fira, a very good option to stay in Santorini

The capital is very well communicated with public transport with all the island, in addition it has the port where the ferries arrive very near.

As we told you in the post about things to see and do in Santorini, it is a perfect place to take as a base.

In Fira you can find accommodation of all prices, and being the capital has a lot of shops and restaurants.

It’s perfect if you don’t plan to rent a car because of the good connections it has with the rest of the places.

Recommended accommodation in Fira:

San Giorgio – Hotel with a very modern decoration and spectacular rooms! This is one of Santorini’s most recommended accommodations!

Sweet Pop – Super cool, modern and with very good scores!

Tataki Hotel – In the center of Fira 40 meters from the cliff

These are the accommodations marked on the map in green.

4. Kamari, budget accommodation in Santorini

Here are the best beaches of the island famous for having black sand, but in our opinion are not too spectacular …

It is one of the cheapest areas to stay in Santorini and has plenty of accommodation and restaurants.

In this area we stay two nights in Louis Studios, the hotel offers free transfer from the airport/port but we recommend you to bring a rental car to move freely around the island.

We chose the room “Studio Superior with sea views”, completely renovated and with a very cool Mediterranean decoration! It had a mini kitchen equipped to make us some food or breakfast (although we don’t use it), and every day they replaced capsules for our free coffee machine.

Accommodation is in a secluded area of the village with a small supermarket next door.

Recommended accommodations in Kamari:

Louis Studios – Our accommodation

Oscar Hotel – Close to the beach and downtown

Nostos Beach Hotel – First line to the beach

These are the Santorini accommodations marked on the map in brown.

5. Pyrgos, in the middle of the island of Santorini

This is a small village in the middle of the island of Santorini, is practically the same distance from all points of interest.

This is where Art Hotel is located, the second of the accommodations in Santorini where we stayed.

Even so, don’t think it’s a lost town, there’s a lot of restaurants and accommodation on offer, but we can enjoy a tranquility that’s hard to find in other parts of the island.

Recommended accommodation in Pyrgos:

Art Hotel, is the accommodation we choose! It is a very modern hotel of new construction, the rooms are decorated with industrial style, we had private swimming pool and every morning they serve you an amazing breakfast in the room.

Cultural House – In the center of Pyrgos with good evaluations.

These are the accommodations marked on the map in yellow.

6. Akrotiri the cheapest area to stay in Santorini overlooking the boiler

This area is quite far from things to see in Santorini, the only one that is close is the lighthouse of Akrotiri.

As it is not so touristic, it is one of the cheapest areas to stay in Santorini, but the offer in restaurants is also more scarce.

We recommend you take a rental car if you stay here.

Recommended accommodation in Akrotiri:

Acrothea Suites and Villas – Very good opinions with views to the boiler

Villa Galinia – With views to the boiler and swimming pool

These are the Santorini accommodations marked on the map in blue.
