Travel insurance to Thailand, which one to choose?

A travel insurance to Thailand must have some essential coverages to be reassured against any setback that may arise, especially in health issues.

In our case we have had to use travel insurance on three occasions and two of them have been in Thailand, we tell you how our insurance responded, how health in Thailand works and all the coverages that should have a good insurance to save us some scare.

Thailand is one of the countries we’ve been in the longest, we’ve spent several seasons living in Chiang Mai, we love Thai culture and we’re looking forward to escaping there again for a while.

Today we tell you about what for us is the best travel insurance to Thailand.

TRAVEL INSURANCE TO THAILAND

Honestly, in our case, one of the main reasons why we always travel insured is the issue of health.

We like to be reassured knowing that if anything happens to us thousands of miles from home we will be treated in the best hospitals, the best doctors, and without having to advance a single euro.

On this basis, travel insurance to Thailand should be available:

High medical coverage for us to be treated in good hospitals.
That we don’t have to advance one euro.
To be able to speak Spanish and collect with our insurance.
And of course, that he has good references.

All these points seem very important to us, and I would almost say essential!

In our case, our travel insurance Iati (which we have used for more than 5 years) more than meets all of them, we also know that they respond to the first, we tell you below our experience the two times we need it in Thailand.

The best travel insurance to Thailand

Thailand has very good hospitals, especially in Bangkok. In fact, on the website of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs you are recommended to travel to Thailand if, for example, you are ill in Cambodia.

We can go to these hospitals for any setback that arises during our trip, these things are always consulted before making a trip to be aware of what to do in case you need medical assistance.

Believe me when I say to you that if you get sick at the other end of the world, what you will want most at that time is for you to be cared for in the best hospitals.

These hospitals are not public as they are in Europe, and that is why it is necessary to have good insurance during our trip.

Iati Estrella Premium’s insurance covers up to 500,000€ of medical assistance abroad, one of the highest coverages in the market, and the best thing is that they take care of everything from the first moment without having to advance any money.

We always recommend that you take out the Iati Estrella or Iati Estrella Premium insurance.

Travel insurance coverage to Thailand

We recommend that you do not skimp on coverages to travel to Southeast Asia, also if we spend a few days in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, we will also have everything covered.

Iati offers other insurances with less coverage (and cheaper) as the Iati Basic or Standard, for other countries we recommend them but in the case of Thailand, in our opinion they may fall short.

Although for us the issue of medical assistance is the most important, with the travel insurance we will also cover other aspects such as the delay in the delivery of luggage or in the departure of means of transport.

We leave you the comparison of travel insurance to Thailand with the Iati Estrella vs Iati Estrella Premium.

Experience with travel insurance in Thailand

We had to use our travel insurance to Thailand twice:

In the first one I cut myself with a knife in my leg in the silliest way, but that’s how accidents happen…

They had to give me five stitches and for a week we went every day to a hospital in Bangkok to have my wound healed until the stitches were removed.

Iati took care of everything, a chauffeur came to our accommodation every day, took us back and forth from the hospital. I was also able to talk to a Spanish doctor on the phone about the medication I had been given.

To tell the truth, I didn’t expect it to be a taaaan pijillo hospital, they took care of every detail and treated us wonderfully every day.

Travel insurance to Thailand

The second time we had to use our travel insurance to Thailand was in 2017. As we spent some time in our beloved Chiang Mai, David had an ear infection.

Well, later we knew it was an infection, at first what I had was unbearable pain. We called Iati, agreed on a time for them to come and pick us up, and just like the previous time a driver took us to the hospital.

He was treated by a specialist who did several tests. He sent her antibiotics and other medicines, which we also had covered by insurance, and in a few days she ran out.

In our case they were “light” things, but to be able to call the insurance and that they take charge of everything is priceless, even more so if it becomes something worse.
